As a mainstay in the Philadelphia fashion scene with an iconic storefront, Joan Shepp’s new location needed to at once make a bold statement and let her famed sartorial selection shine. Taking a modern approach that would leverage the elements of the existing space and create comfortable circulation for a relaxed shopping experience, SgRA exposed the steel roof trusses, restored the storefront’s white marble façade, transformed the previously uninhabitable basement into an elegant boutique space, and revitalized the open-riser stairs in an homage to the vaulting staircase in her former flagship.
