Rittenhouse Square has been one of Philadelphia's most prestigious neighborhoods since the mid 19th century, and, fittingly, the city's wealthiest citizens invested just as much in their carriage houses as in their homes. The 2000 block of Rittenhouse Square was formerly devoted to their stables, only a few of which have survived.
SGRA was brought on board to rehabilitate one of the city's most outstanding examples, built circa 1881, which had been allowed to fall into disrepair and decay by its previous owners - it even ended up on the city's list of the "10 most endangered" historic buildings prior to our renovation. Significant restoration rescued its intricate brick and terra cotta facade, and transformed its interior from a battered, badly updated garage into 6 residential units.
